In January 2016, Dr. Van Laeken travelled to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania, Africa with the charitable organization Women for Women. While there she performed surgeries on women and children suffering from disfiguring and socially excluding injuries mainly resulting from burns and domestic abuse.
